It is Story Time. When I was a young girl, I noticed very early on that women who made an effort to have a skincare regimen had beautiful complexions than the women who did not. A vague observation, really, but it was something I noticed at a very young age. Even skin tone, blemish-free complexion, soft, supple skin was looked upon as a sign of beauty. I would watch my mother splash water on her face with utmost delicacy and pat her skin dry with a soft cloth. Then she would follow up with a face massage of cold cream with caressing strokes along her facial structure. I would observe her reflexion in the mirror thinking, "So this is what I get to do when I grow up". Even back then, I knew it was not vanity that was my driving force, but what we now call "Self Care" that was and still is important.
Skincare has been a passion of mine for quite some time. I remember as a preteen, my skin started to change and morph. I could barely remember to splash water on my face let alone a full-on skincare regimen. Oh but I suffered for it. Yes my friends, painful blemishes and the dark scars left behind tormented me throughout my high school years onto college. I suffered from painful acne, hormonal breakouts, hyperpigmentation, and inflammation. I would love to go back and have a talk with my younger self and set up good skin habits.
All that behind us. According to Wikipedia, "Self-care is a process of taking care of oneself with behaviors that promote health and active management of illness when it occurs. Both types of self-care are needed, as described further below. Everyone engages in some form of self-care daily with food choices, exercise, sleep, and dental care." Skincare and Body-care is a form of Self Love. Feeding you body with nutrient rich foods, receiving a massage so your muscles can go back to being neutral or in a parasympathetic state, these are all good for you.
